Welcome to the official website of EMac and Hedwig! I am EMac (also known as Elizabeth MacSwan) and I am a nature photographer who specializes in bird photography. Hedwig is my adventure van - a 4x4 class B RV. Together, we travel around having adventures, taking photographs and marveling at nature’s beauty. Here you can find our online store as well as links to our other social media, like our Youtube channel and Patreon site. Also check out our Instagram @emac_photo! We are currently working on a very exciting project - photographing all 19 species of North American owls! Over the next few years, this will be our main focus. It will be very challenging, but also really fun. You can follow our owl photography journey by subscribing to our Youtube channel and IG account - scroll down to see the latest IG posts!

Right now we aren’t traveling due to COVID 19, but that hasn’t stopped us from safely exploring nature and finding owls (and other birds) to photograph close to home, right here in Massachusetts. The pandemic will not stop this project from happening, it just means that it will take us longer to complete. This isn’t such a bad thing. With owls, the more you visit them, the better you can get to know them and build a trust. This can only help us get the best photographic opportunities possible.

With that mindset, the plan is to keep photographing the owl species we get here in the northeast, which are quite a few! Year round we have Barred Owls, Great Horned Owls and Eastern Screech-Owls, all relatively easy to find. There are also Barn Owls and Northern Saw Whet Owls, which are harder to find and not as numerous, but possible. In the winter we get a few other visitors - Long-eared Owls, Short-eared Owls and Snowy Owls. So out of the 19 North American species, in a year we could possibly see 8, which isn’t too bad! If deemed safe to travel, we could possibly get another few species without having to go too far (north) - Boreal Owl, Great Gray Owl and Northern Hawk Owl. Until then, we have plenty to photograph right here!

We hope you are staying healthy!

With love,

EMac and Hedwig
